Nothing sucks then having a camp report time change from 1pm to 9am, and because of the time change so does sleeping time change and worst is when u agree to go clubing on that very night.
Those were the inital thoughts juz sucks sucks sucks... but as we know all camps no matter how sucky or lame the camp name is, it still manages to seal smth new in yourself.
Flashback...So i woke up to the usual tired mornings as every teenager would during his holidays and catch my fave show on tv "Nameless Angels 3D" on ch55 vv drama, which i normally would not even switch to.
But the actress and actors in the show was fantastic and the storyline simpily intense and suspending.
Then later around 12 i started packing my bag with the required things, wore my green camo berms and sports tee, got there almost late but it seem like there were more people later then me =D muhahaha!
Took a sit down where people started to look at me like i'm some freak or smth, thinking it's proberly my unsual spiked hair style.
Soon after 25 mins passed everyone gathered where the instructor
Sir Calvin brief us and told us to think of a hero for 5 mins and then later go around introducing my new found hero in me
"Hi i'm Gandalf!" LAMO!. during the welcoming talk, i notice this gal kept staring at me...
After this we went to play a game called "blow wind blow" which is a very very interesting game like "whacko".
Then from the "blow wind blow" game that was where our buddy were chosen and it so happened to be
Shane one of my schoolmate in st gabs.
Later we were then asked to go to 1 of the 8 Seinors Ex-cos groups. I scouted around and saw
Bob and
Xavier and Chermaine, who i remembered during my orentation.
Bob was one of those big sized strict floorball guy who has a heart of gold and
Xavier who i remembered being one of the funny guys calling himself "Sam the sandman" and also one of the few person who talked to me during the first day of orentation.
So when Sir called us to go to a group I told Shane to follow me and was proberly one of the 1st guys to get to that group.
Then i also noticed
Kamal and his buddy
Ain who also joined us and kamal later did agree that he also chosed this team.
Soon we were brought to a coner where we introduce ourselves and had to choose a team leader.
There was this malay gal called
Faz who I considered gave the most bubbly group introduction ever thus Kamal, Ain and me voted for her to be the group
Captain but things always had to go the oppsite for me and next thing i know 4 other guys chose me as team captain blahhh i always wanted to learn leadership skills from others,
but there was no point to disagree with the vote, and i juz said "I'll try my best".
So normally when i'm a leader i'll give others a chance to step out to contribute an idea or lead the team,
which puts me at a position where I seem as though I lack
self-confidence and got little to contribute or juz got no initive to lead the team.
FYI i gave the most boring introduction
"Hi i'm Mervyn, or you can call me Merv" which most of the time ppl hear it as
smurf. but it's okay!
So moving on we started to play other games like getting up from the floor with your arms locked together with your buddy and
"frog in the well" Where a circle was formed with a rope around a team squeezed together and they have to try to get in later as fast as they can without touching the rope.
I was surprise our team did so well that at first we hit almost 6-3mins in the first few rounds and in the mids of it I was asked for the timing which came a shocking 0.91mins from one of the other teams.
I was asked to give a target where i juz set a target of 0.9mins which seem impossible, So as expected when i got back and told then the
"bad-news" their faces were shocked but they still tried and we notice that the tatic to get into the hole needed to be changed and results proved, time went from 2mins to 1mins to 0.7mins to 0.5 to 0.4 but the other teams were doing well and we finally pushed ourselves to do it as fast as we could and we hit a shocking
0.2mins which beat every other 8 teams! woo! =D but this success might prove to be a setback for us as we got more lax.
Later after celebrating our success we needed to come up with a
team name and a team cheer which noramlly i would feel the worst becoz this is where people got no idea and even if they do they will keep it to themselves feeling it's stupid or lame...
So i asked them to think about adjectives which can discribe our team just now during the games and at first all couldn't settle for one but smurfs which i feel it only describes me.
But as we continued they came up with energy which them became energizer and to Team Gizer.
Thus
Team Gizer was born, then
Sabrina contributed greatly to getting a cheer up and
Kamal and
Ain helped with the actions to the cheer.
After this our team was asked to come up with 5 ground rules which was
1)Be Punctual (my most scared rule)
2)Strive Excellence
3)Be open & contribute ideas
4)(can't remember! >.<)
5)Have Fun
which we were then shot down badly by our seniors and the instructor on why these rules.
After this we had our dinner where the food was okay and i got to remember better the names of my team by playing a game putting an adjective in front of our names and repeating everyone of their names.
Talented Tatto, Liang, Earnest Erna, Radicous Rico, Terrence, Fantastic Fawze.
Finally it was night time and we were asked to do our cheer and i would say we performed very good after trying it out for only 1hour+
Then came the boring ground rule talk where i almost slept cause it was so boring...
Then finally we were let off to go home and
Day 1 has passed and if ur wondering how come this camp can go home, i'm thinking it the "tammy" thing that the board of directors dun allow us to stay overnight.
DAY 2... We agreed to meet up at 8.45 at the school attium to go to the place together but as usual i was late! agh and
Sir gave us a talk on being late.
"If you tell urself you can't make it, you will not make it"and yes i agree i think i did tell myself i doubt i can make it tml morning. A lesson learned.
Next we were playing games till the noon where we kept losing(almost last) and being unable to make it.
I guess this was so is because we became lax due to the win we got in the 1st day.
Thus we got desprate and only the best few in the team keep going for the win and left the others out of the team to do time keeping or juz stand there to watch.
After lunch and playing more games our
Seniors talked to us, i was expecting a
scolding and yes it was somewhere near a scolding but it was a telling off not because we lost badly in all the games but rather
A talk on how desprate we were to winning that we left out the others in the team and almost all team work was gone in the team, which he then told us...
"One for All, All for One
If we lose we lose together and if we win we win together. Not one person should be left out"i was thus deem
Guity.
After the
"scolding" all of us woke up from our dreams and i began to see everyone excel in the last 3 games.
Where the last one was the most curel, tiring and 1 mistake can make your whole team dissapointed in you
forever, it was called
"poison river..."where you have 3 chairs and need to move to the other end with the 3 chairs with your team without touching any of the ropes between the start and end. the 3 chairs can only fit 4 people at a time and later still 1 person need to go back to get more people. Should during the moving a person fall from the chair fall to the ground or touch the ropes everyone all starts from the begainning.
A super tiring game and the team beside my team had quite a fury with the instructor and it was the gal who kept staring at me, her face at during the duration of the game was the blackest i ever seen.
My team didn't get a good time either, the guys who we planned to go first(
Rico, Ain, Erna, Sabrina) retried 3 times and their faces were tired and angry so we decided to change positions, thus i took the front postion to place the chair followed by
kamal fawze and terence. I saw the determaination in the team,
Terence who wasn't very big sized i could see him struggle with every chair he had to carry up. But luckly we managed to crossed, then later
Kamal went back for the rest and the first team(
Rico, Ain, Erna, Sab) who we planned at first to go went for it, they also crossed it successfuly and
terrence went back to fetch the rest at a SUPER fast speed. Then the last group(
Kamal, Terrence, Fawze, Laing) started to move to the end. And YAY we got
3rd!, everyone of us just started
hugging each other like crazy haha!
Finally the day was ending, we were told to gather as a team after dinner and we were evaluted and the
Seniors were proud of us and i was proud of everyone of them, i'm sure they all felt the same way.
We were then brought to a quiet place in the campus to
vote for each other, to rate each other
performance, personallity and leadership skills and also say every negative points and good points of each person. it basicly seem like a church camp already, being open and telling each other how good or bad they are and what judgement did u make on them during the first time. Things that i got were:
"You are the best leader there was, we knew u wasn't the wrong choice."
"When I first saw you i though u were some cool guy who wasn't cut out to be a leader but you proved me wrong."
"People around me say my team captain is so cool and such and i agree with it."
"Though you were late today, other than that your still a good leader."
"You need to have more self-confidence in yourself, believe that you can do all things other than that i find no fault in your leadership"
Tears were in my eyes after hearing all this, gave each and everyone of them a hug when they commented and i got
full vote of 11 awsome!
And Day 2 comes to an end and after this still have to go meet
angie and miho my good buddies at liquid kitchen at thomson for some drinks and angie had waited for 1 hour as my camp release was deleyed! oh no! hahaha! and i almost got killed by them.
Final Day...As
Sir Calvin said
"This would be the day all teams come together to work together as one OGL team." So the day came following what Sir said i woke up at a amazing one ring of the alarm and got ready but was still late to meet the guys at the atrium but not late to be at the meeting point at 9am. So things did impoved.
First thing when we assembled at the place we were already asked to get ready as the offical game begin at 9.30am.
I felt a sudden pressure like suddenly there was only
8 captains to lead over a 100 people. The Captains met up together and dissucssed our plan and it felt
chocking as the whistle was going to be blown anytime now, after the discussion with the captains.
I headed to my team and breif them and i formed a
grand cheer among everyone as requested by my senior.
BEEeeeeeepppp goes the whistle...Everyone started running from the front door while i leaded my team to the side stairs and headed to the 2nd floor where there was another team at the booth already!
The inial plan had failed I thought but actually there was no 1st floor for the
1st team(push-ups) to go to and i told my team to head to the 3rd floor as we were the
2nd team(team gizer) which the plan was supposed to head to 2nd floor. NYP had such a werid building system!
So We got to the 3rd floor which was booked and lucky for us there was a visible booth near by and we headed there. At that place we were told to sit according to the poker card number we took in asceding order, from red first then to black. We passed the booth on our 5th and last try.
Then later we went to 8 other stations, where later at 1pm we met back at the usual place to check our scores, i was very glad my team only failed 1 station and couldn't complete 1 station.
I saw that
winning teamwork sprit in my team and i'm so damm proud of them.
Like they said...
"We performed beyond execellent today."Then later we had a super delicious buffet as show below
IT'S was the best time in my life and soon all things had to come to an end we took some photos and bid each other good-bye!
However it was only the begining of EVERYTHING
